Congrats to Michigan on winning the Sugar Bowl over Virginia Tech (sorry Hokie fans). A few months ago I was in Ann Arbor, Michigan taking a tour of one of my favorite college towns. I happen to bring a video camera with me.
Being a Detroit Lion fan I have to admit I’m not happy with Ndamukong Suh and his actions against Green Bay last week. After watching that game it’s obvious the team needs some on field discipline. Especially if they want to make the playoffs. I did get a kick out of this video though.
Quite the events in baseball this week. I was wondering how much of a slide my beloved Tigers would have once baseball picked back up. The only lost the first two games out of the break. Last year it was six. For whatever reason the past few years the Tigers have been poorly after the All-Star Game. It has cost them in years past, hopefully it won’t this year.
Here are some random thoughts from the game and the season so far…
Jeter should have been there, he was voted in and fans wanted to see him…. National Leauge picthing is pretty solid, I wonder how different the game would have been had a few guys been able for pitch for the AL, I did think the Ron Washington the AL manager mismanaged a few times… not the best of All-Star games got a little sloppy at times… this is still my favorite All-Star game of any sport… Who would have thought the Pirates would be in first in July, it’s nice to see them contend…. same for Arizona as well, nice to see them play good baseball, hats off to manager Kirk Gibson…. every division race is close…. Milwaukee made a good trade it’s all or bust this year for them to get back into the playoffs. Should be a great rest of the season.
Who had the idea to do this at a basketball game? This must be intentional but who the heck came up this and who agreed to facilitate it. Kind of a waste. Maybe I’m over reacting here, I will say though the visual is pretty cool. In all my years in radio one of the most important things I’ve learned is don’t pass something out that people can throw back at you.
Not words I’d like to post much. The Boston Bruins are NHL Staney Cup Champions. Quite the playoffs, they won three game sevens this year. If you’re looking for some history about the Stanley Cup. Check out an interview I did a while ago with the keeper of the Stanley Cup. I guess I didn’t do my Red Wings any favors in this video.
An exciting game 1 in the Stanley Cup finals with Vancouver scoring with less than 20 seconds left in the third period to win 1-0. I have always thought that the NHL Playoffs were the best of any sport. Sadly though, there are some players that take things to far. I’m not talking about a cheap shot on the ice either. Check this out:
The player in question, Alex Burrows, was not suspended for his actions due to a lack of evidence. What do you think?
Eariler today Macho Man Randy Savage passed away down in Florida at the age of 58. Rand was became a mainstream star in the 80s and 90s in the WWF (Now WWE) and WCW. For a number of years he was the spokesman for Slim Jim and did a number of TV commercials. He also appeared in the Spiderman movie as well.
Savage had colorful outfits, could cut a great promo and was a great in ring performer. His finishing move, the flying elbow was one of the best finishing moves of all time. During Wrestlemania 3 he wrestled Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat in a match many considered one of the best ever. He was an entertaining bad guy and good guy throughout his career. I only saw him wrestle once in person back in 1993 when he wrestled Jerry Lawler in Detroit.
I’ll share below some great videos of The Macho Man. Thanks for memories Randy and great catchphrases ”Dig It!” and ”Oh Yeah.” Even if you aren’t a wrestling fan his personality and promos would still make you laugh.

Harmon Killebrew in 2007
During the week of the All-Star game in San Fransisco I had the honor of meeting Harmon Killebrew. It was an expected meeting as I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. While I was getting ready for the big press conference that was about to start revealing the line ups of that year’s All-Star game, someone invited me upstairs for a special breakfast and a chance to meet a Hall of Famer. Now I didn’t have time to eat (Surprising I pass up a meal) I wasn’t going to pass up the chance to meet Harmon Killebrew. I stood patiently as he was talking to a few people and then before he left I happened to grab him for a few minutes. He was a very nice guy and shared a couple of great baseball memories with me.
Sadly Harmon passed away today after a battle with cancer. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1984 and hit 573 Home Runs back when those numbers meant more than they do now.
Check out the interview below.
Not to long ago the NHL banned Octopus from being thrown on the ice (a Detroit tradition), a new rule has taken out more funn in the NHL. Today the NHL announced that the Green Men who hang around the penality box in Vancouver to annoy the visiting teams can no longer touch the glass and no more hand stands. They were fun to watch and now have to tone down on their act. Let’s take a moment and look at some of their best moments below featuring some bizarre props.
