I’ve never been the greatest player when it came to Guitar Hero or Rock Band but this seeing this video alone motivates to become a better player. What is it? It’s the intro to the Beatles Rock Band video game. Click the link below to check out the trailer to the new game.

The American League wins yet again

July 15th, 2009 | By davetaylor-wafx in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

It was a game where pitching dominated as the American League won 4-3 over the National League. The AL got off to a quick start with 2 runs in the first and then the National League took a 3-2 lead on 3 runs in the second that all scored after 2 out were made. It was nice to see one of my favorite players Curtis Granderson hit a triple and score what turned out to be the winning run. The pacing of the game was fast and I think there were quite a few players who didn’t get into the game which is unusual. So the American League will have home field advantage in the World Series again. Does it mean anything? Just ask the 06 Tigers and the 08 Rays. They had the advantage yet still lost.

On a side note President Obama threw out the first pitch. Security happened to be pretty tight at the ballpark and the President even stuck around for about an hour to watch the game.

Next year’s game is in Anaheim. 2011 is in Arizona.

Keep checking back for more interviews and pictures from my All Star Experience!

Being a fan

July 14th, 2009 | By davetaylor-wafx in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Every year for the All-Star game. Each city as hosts a multi day event call Fan Fest. It features different attractions for both kids and adults. One of the nice exhibits feature the history of the Negro Leagues. The sport of baseball has done a great job perserving it’s history and for a history buff like me you can spend a lot of time reading about the old days of baseball. There’s also a minor league exhibit and one for the woman who inspired “A League of Their Own”. Legendary players also sign autographs as well. You could spend a lot of hours at a place like this.

More Celebrities

July 14th, 2009 | By davetaylor-wafx in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

There were a few more sightings of celebrities at the ball park this afternoon. The first one I saw was Melissa Rycroft. Not a household name but she was on the Bachelor and was “dumped” in a surprising fashion. That actually worked out pretty well for her in her career. She’s now doing some work with ABC and is engaged again. Quite the rock on her hand and quite the looker too. I also had a run in with LL Cool J. I didn’t get a chance to tape an interview but I did ask if he was on the view and he said yes. Annie Wersching from 24 will still hanging around and I chatted with her again. Then after what seemed like forward I found Alyssa Milano and chatted with her about her clothing line and we both agreed to there should never be a reunion for the Who’s the Boss show or Charmed. Alyssa still looks good as you can see in this photo.

St. Louis has some odd statues

While walking around downtown today I noticed St. Louis had some rather interesting statues. Not sure what they are all about. More pictures can be found here.

Home Run Debry

I will say this about St. Louis Cardinal fans. No matter who your favorite team is and you think you have the best fans. Come to a Cardinals game. These are good fans. Loyal and they know the game. Even classy as well as Brandon Inge failed to hit a homerun during the derby they were cheering him on pretty good. Of course the hometown hero Albert Pujols received the loudest ovation.

Unlike previous years, there was no big display of power this year. The winner, Prince Fielder, just hit over 20 total for 3 rounds. Only 2 hit more than 10 in any round. Shocking as this seemed like an ideal night for a lot of homeruns to fly out of this ballpark. Usually there’s that one guy that stands out during the event. It may have been Nelson Cruz from the Texas Rangers. He finished second and may have been the least known of the 8 who participated. That’s the great thing about the Derby is that it allows someone to rise to the top. Some people claim that they need more stars for an event of this type, I disagree. We’d never have the Bobby Abreus and Josh Hamiltons be who they are without this event.

Local All-Stars

Hampton Roads has been a hot spot when it comes to sports stars. This year there’s a number of All-Stars from Hampton Roads or have ties to the area. David Wright, Justin Upton and Ryan Zimmerman each made the team this year. There are 4 Tigers who were selected to play in the game, two of them are from Virginia. Justin Verlander went to ODU and is making his second appearance while Brandon Inge, who went to VCU, is also in the game. I had a chance to talk with some of the players today.

Memories of the Game

Baseball has been the sport that has been a part of most people’s lives and it’s very cool to ask someone who’s been covering the game for years what their favorite memory is. Everyone’s is different. I had a chance to talk with Bob Costas and Peter Gammons very briefly today. I also was finally able to track down Erin Andrews. She’s pretty nice but I wasn’t sure how to handle the interview. Everything gets to cliched in these situations. Maybe it’s something I need to work on but you have to respect what they do for a living. Oh and she’s good looking in person too

My favorite All-Star memory would be when a number of Tiger players made it to the 84 All-Star team. It was a year that was magical for the Tigers and nice to see them on the center stage.

My own Mascot Mania

July 13th, 2009 | By davetaylor-wafx in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Outside of trying to visit every ball park. 28 and counting. I’ve been trying to meet a lot of the mascots. Although while I never may feel complete after missing out on Youppi who was the Montreal Expos mascot during a baseball trip in 2002 it’s still a fun thing to do.

Can’t we bring him back for the All-Star game?

This morning while having breakfast it was insane with about 10 different mascots invading the breakfast area. Some were “serving” as busboys while The Rays Raymond was passing out some hot sauce and the Cardinals Redbird was pouring Orange Juice. I will have to do an audit of all my mascot pictures to see how many I have. This was a fun morning.

Green Grass and High Tides

July 13th, 2009 | By davetaylor-wafx in Uncategorized | No Comments »

A note I forgot to mention yesterday. Norfolk Tide Chris Tillman was the starting picture in the Futures Game here on Sunday. He enjoyed the experience is looking forward to a good second half of the season with the Tides. In case you haven’t been following the Tides this season. They’ve been playing some really good baseball and are currently tied for first. Listen to the Chris Tillman interview here.
