Pistons still stink

February 27th, 2009 | By davetaylor-wafx in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I don’t think this trade for A.I. has worked out. The Pistons have lost many games in a row and it looks like it can hit 10 pretty soon. At least the Wings are doing good and Spring Training has started up.

The Oscars… do you care?

February 19th, 2009 | By davetaylor-wafx in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Is it me or is it because The Dark Knight didn’t pick up any big nominations that the casual fan isn’t going to tune in? Probably not. I know they are changing up the red carpet this year so we’re going to see what some people are wearing and they’re not telling us who the presenters are until they actually present, is that going to make you tune in? It’s tough because they are a lot of good films that don’t get the attention they deserve. People would be more likely to watch the Oscars if “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” or “The Dark Knight” was up for an award.  When it’s movie that play in many theaters or has a long run, people don’t care. I wanted to see The Visitor, The Wrestler, In Burges and Frost/Nixon and maybe I didn’t look hard enough but if they were shown in Hampton Roads I didn’t know about it. So how can people get exciting for something they didn’t see or know about. At least I know I can watch in a quiet theater at home when they come out on DVD.

Grammy Recap

February 16th, 2009 | By davetaylor-wafx in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Being a big Robert Plant fan I can’t express enough about how thrilled I was that he and Alison Krauss scored 5 Grammy Awards for their work on Raising Sand. Traditionally it seems that critics will mixed on the results it’s almost like their favorites won or didn’t win. In all honestly of the 5 nominated albums for Album of the Year the only one I did listen to one Raising Sand. So if it didn’t win, I wouldn’t have a reason to be upset. Hopefully the success of this album will downplay the talk of a never gonna happen Led Zeppelin reunion. This success should show that Plant has been fine in moving in his own direction of his chosing. Robert and Alison will work on a new album, I’m not expecting it to sound like Raising Sand 2, I do wonder what direction they’ll take us to now…
