While we joke the kids today aren’t listening to some great music to my surprise there’s been some great album released this year by some classic artists. First one that comes to mind is the solo album from Fleetwood Mac member Lindsey Buckingham called Gift of Screws. The album also features guest appearances by John Mcvie and Mick Fleetwood. Maybe some of their recent work together helped spawn the Fleetwood Mac tour that’ll take place in 2009. Another one of my favorites is Meet Glen Campbell by Glen Campbell. It’s a covers album features songs that were originally done by Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, The Foo Fighters and Green Day. It’s a well done album it’s a shame it’s short on music though, Glen and company did a good job with it. One other great album that was released this year was Tom Petty’s band who released their self titled debut called Mudcrutch. The band actually formed years before Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers became popular. Unable to score a hit single the members went their own way in the 70s until the last couple of years where they was a reunion of sorts. By the way as a suprise and it caught me off guard when I first listened to the album, Tom doesn’t handle all of the lead vocal duties and it doesn’t sound like a Heartbreakers album. It’s different but enjoyable none the less.
